A Rising Star

A Rising Star is one of the best Trading Card Stores I have found in the Twin Cities, particularly for Pokemon in my case, though it seems like they have an extensive collection of Magic, Yugi-Oh, and more. I was incredibly impressed by their organization, the sets were nearly organized by generation and I was able to take the box to a table and peruse at my leisure. The staff here were incredibly helpful as polite as well, adding that extra little touch that will bring me back here any time I am looking for trading cards. Definitely stop by and support them - you won't regret it. 💙

Stopped in to help get a price check on Mac Jones NFL Debut Honeycomb as I am not very educated in the hobby and was looking for help. Glad I stopped in, instantly I was greeted by Luke. Awesome customer service and very educational about my card and where I can find accurate pricing. Extremely helpful in layout of store and what products were where. He connected me with the owner for a quote. The owner was super nice and took time to also look up the card and give me a quote. They also took time to ask about what sports I was interested in, as well as talking the time to just chat about sports. Highly recommend stopping in and checking them out and I will certainly be back! Thanks, Zach

Today was my 3rd time at this shop. Their customer service for Pokémon customers really suck and I had to tell them that before I left this time. The 1st visit the guy didn’t know a lot about Pokémon cards but he was nice and patient and tried to help us find common cards we needed. The 2nd time the girl was busy (pricing cards) and it seemed as through we were bothering her. She wasn’t helpful. We sat on our phones trying to find the price of a card for quite some time and she never offered to help (she just stood on the other side of the counter pricing cards from the TCG app on her phone), so we didn’t get the card because we couldn’t connect to TCG inside the store. After we purchased a different card she took it out of the top loader and said “we remove top loaders under a certain amount.” When I asked to purchase the top loader she just looked at me and didn’t respond. My son was annoyed at the lack of help she provided and just wanted to leave. So we left. Today when we went in the store there was one person at the Yu-GI-Oh counter and one guy at the Magic counter (who went outside to smoke). We looked at Pokémon cards for quite some time (long enough for me to search the price for a few cards in TCG (since no one ever offered to help). My son wanted a few cards but was annoyed that no one seems to want to help… so we left without buying anything (the smoker came in as we were leaving). Then I went back and told them that their customer service sucks (without my son present). Their reply was, “you can just ask us for help.” I just left. Who was I suppose to ask, the guy outside smoking or the girl on her cell phone? And why does the customer need to ask for help each time they enter the store. Is that the store policy? Don’t ask to help customers, wait for them to ask you. We have been collecting Pokémon for years and often go in stores that are a lot busier and receive much better customer. At the very least they can greet customers. On each occasion we were the only Pokémon customers in the store and 1 of 2 (or 3) total customer purchasing something. So it’s wasn’t a matter of us not being patient. And it wasn’t a matter of them being too busy with other customers. I’ve had bad customer service before but this time it annoyed my 12 year old son so I decided to write a review. Mostly because we expected more from a LGS.

I've debated whether I should post this review for nearly a year now, but the fact that it still bothers me is probably a good reason to post it. Several months ago, my boyfriend and I stopped by to look at cards immediately after the funeral of his roommate/good friend. We thought it would help to cheer him up a bit since we JUST left the ceremony held for his close friend k*lling himself. But, when we were looking at cards- and I still can't believe the timing of this happening- an employee named Kayla was apparently having a bad day due to computer problems, and kept shouting (seriously, shouting) "I am literally going to k*ll myself, I'm going to throw myself in front of a truck, I guess I have to k*ll myself now" and other variations, all describing suicide, several times, and all at a ridiculously loud volume. Each time she yelled another sentence, my stomach felt a little sicker, and I hoped she would stop, but it went on for what felt like 10 minutes at least. I didn't want to write the review when it happened because I wasn't the one grieving that day, and it's not like she could've known we were at a funeral just minutes before she did this, but still, I was so mad that she KEPT saying it, and every time I see A Rising Star, it's all I can think of.
